A quick question, are DIY sim rigs worth the cost saving over a pre manufactured one? I am starting to think about replacing my rig, as I think it is a bit too “flexible” if my DD wheel plan comes to fruition. The P1-X looks the dogs danglies, but could I build something similar much cheaper, and still use the wheel mount?

I looked to do the same and if you can cut the profile accurately at home then def yes. If you get someone else to cut it or get it cut on ordering then then the costs are closer. If you want all the end caps and extra t-nuts and bolts etc then it gets even closer so that for me it wasn’t worth it if you spec the same rig.
If you want to spec something a bit less overkill and can cut at home then def yes.

I have a 255mm compound mitre saw, so I shall have to see how much a proper blade costs. It may cost the difference between DIY and already cut.

I looked in to the same thing as any opportunity to save a bit of cash is good However, like Simon says if you order the lengths already cut then source the fixings, the costs are quite close. Coupled with the high cost of the wheel deck (and it's associated shipping costs) I just bit the bullet and bought the P1-X. I figured I should never have to buy another rig so the costs would be worth it.

Ah, I have not looked at shipping costs. I would also need to sell my RS6 first, or the Mrs would string me up.

Worked for me Although I think it was right place, right time and pure luck. My job lot from E-Bay cost £155, including all the fixings, I then spent another £50 getting extra connectors and the profile laser cut to my measurements. all in, I now have several spare pieces (left overs from my triple screen stand) and tubs of nuts, bolts and connectors. Great stuff to work with as it’s so versatile . Edited to say: It’s very, very difficult to cut yourself as it really needs to be 100% straight.

This blade here should do the job. I should not need many cuts, so it should work fine in my “chop saw”.

Is it a static table saw? Hand held is a little difficult to get it true. Also, if your looking to purchase from a stockist you may be better off purchasing your prescribed lengths as cutting charges are very cheap (think 75p a cut was mentioned on Racedepartment).

Just asked the Mrs. She is ok for me to get a new rig, as long as I sell the old one first....
