I’m thinking it might be time to retire the old trusty G27. It’s served faithfully but it’s getting clunky and very noisy. I really don’t want to spend more than £500/600 (which frankly seems too much..) Thrustmaster seems to be about the level I’m looking at. Any other suggestions? It’s all desk mounted so can’t be too powerful!

Not sure I’d bother Geoff. If your looking to spend that much, chances are the wheel is going to be too powerful either way for a desk mount. I imagine if you were to secure it via bolts or screws it may help, but it’s still going to shake the living daylights out of it, as well as ruin the top surface . edited to say: I think Kev bought the Fanatec 2.5 for that sort of money, but can’t remember if he desk mounted it to start with or if he bought his TrakR rig at the same time.

What’s the ‘new’ G29 like? If you like your G27 would it be the way to go?

I have thought about the G29 but I'm thinking I'd like to step it up a notch. The ffb on the g27 whilst okay, is a bit weak. (Although it could be broken!) and the reviews suggest the g29 is similar so looking for something a little stronger. Currently looking at the thrustmaster TX-SW. It's on budget. I did have a look at the fanatec CSL elite but it came out about paring terms of performance with the TX-SW and the clubsport is a step too far.
I've read the thrustmaster can be table top mounted and the desk is fairly hefty so I think it would take it. Not worried about the surface as it's old and only used for the sim gear.
I suspect I've talked myself in to it. Just need to pull the trigger now.

Not so sure I would spend that much on a mid range wheel when for a little more you may be able to get a used DD (Simucube 1). Reference the desk, if it’s quite sturdy you could get away with to it. When I first bought mine I built a wooden wooden frame and attached it to a wooden desk sig-racing.boards.net/thread/880/direct-drive-wheel?page=3.

If you get the Fanatec CSW V2.5 you will need a decent desk mount as well, like the ClubSport desk mount.

Talked myself back out of it. Thinking about the CSW now and keeping the G27 pedals. Buts that's a bit more saving required. I don't think a DD wheel is sensible for my current setup. Alternatively I could look at rigs first.. damm it..

If you are thinking of eventually ending up with a rig and DDW then I wouldn’t bother with a step in between. Go for a DDW wheel and you can always run it at lower power on the desk. You don’t need to rip your arms off on the first day 😂

Come on Geoff it’s only money, can’t take it with you. Anyway with all the crap that’s going on it’s a way to justify your spend if it’s on a hobby. My man maths really pisses the Missus off, but makes perfect sense to me .

DDW just about your budget sim-pli.city/collections/allI have the 20nm one. There were some problems with the software for the low torque ones but last time I looked all was ok ?

Thanks. I'll have a proper look at that. Although I reckon I'm now going to have a rethink, work out what I "need" and in what order. Then find something else more pressing that needs money spending on it :-)

Cheers Tony. Just got the access to that group to see what you were talking about. Funnily enough he’s had so much interest he’s taking sealed bids now 😂. Mind you not quite sure how you’d swing picking that lot up as an essential trip!

Yeah noticed that as his original price complete was crazy . Guy on the same site was selling his used Rift S for £575 today . So I made a comment about his price, as you can buy it new for under £400. I thought, maybe he had mixed the digits up and it should of read £375. His reply was “no, nobody has them in, so you can’t buy one at the minute” obviously just trying to cash in on this whole sorry state . Anyway, my comment was enough to bring it everyone’s attention and the advert has now disappeared.
