Planning ahead here, but what is a decent graphics card that will allow me to run VR titles on full “eye candy” mode? I don’t want to spend the €1k+ the latest and greatest cards are selling for. It needs to be a reasonable price.

Tricky got the 5700 XT if you're going AMD. It's what I'm looking at. I'm still not convinced it'll do "full" eye candy though in all our sims.
AC it will. Maybe Tricky can comment on it's performance and visual settings.

Kev just to let you know Tricky had issues (Didn’t stay long) the other night when we switched to ACC. I’m only running a 1080 and I was able to Race no problem, mainly because it’s improved drastically over the last month. He said it was something to do with ACC working best with Nividia. Not a show stopper, but something to think about as ACC is now a great Sim . Think if you were to ask on one of the race forums they would tell you to wait out for the 3 series cards, apparently there due out in the next six months. Finally I’m not sure having all the eye candy turned to max will make as big a difference as you might like, it seems like the present headsets are the limiting factor. Obviously my opinion as a VR and PC guru is up there with the best

I won’t be buying the latest series card. Way too expensive. I would be happier with a 2080 when the 3080 comes out, and the price of a 2080 drops....

If that's the case, what about a 1080ti? should be cheaper and apparently on par with the new 2070 card?

Sounds good to me. I shall have a look to see what is what.

Are you looking new only? Just 1080ti cards can be hard to find new now.

I am not looking yet. What ever I get, it will have to have the noisy fans stripped off, and be water cooled.

I shall watch this thread with interest as at some point I’ll be making the jump to VR. I’m not convinced the 1070ti will cope

Maybe Tricky can comment on it's performance and visual settings. I have indeed got a RX5700XT (MSI RX5700XT evoke OC) paired with 4690K @4.5GHz and 16Gb ram Bare in mind that I run with Windows Mixed Reality, which I think is easier on the system overheads that some of the other systems. RF2 I run with pretty much everything maxed, with supersampling at 250%, and forced reprojection, and it runs pretty solid 45FPS and looks pretty nice. AC Settings fairly high, Supersampling between 200 & 250%, and forced reprojection and again it runs a pretty solid 45FPS and look really nice. ACC, can not get it to run in VR worth a damn, but I have not yet given up. Will run everything maxed on 3440 x 1440 WQHD and it will hit 60FPS up on Spa in the rain, and that looks gorgeous......... Forced reprojection does cause some artifacting in game, (very little in driving sims) but the smooth frame rate is worth the slight ghosting and flickering on some trackside objects in my opinion. Any questions, feel free to ask away.

Update on ACC:
After a lot of messing about and tweaking, I have got it looking pretty good in VR and running at 45FPS most of the time, drops a bit at the start when the grid is moving off, but that soon rectifies. Not finished tweaking yet, but currently I would say it is not quite as clear & sharp as AC, or rF2, but the game graphics themselves and affects are quite a lot better. Still tweaking.......

I just need to investigate AM2, and the difference that a Rift S could have on it.
