I am looking at upgrading my Music Server with my i7-6700k in the Asus Maximus VIII Ranger (Z170) motherboard.
8Gb seems about a decent amount for this, as it does nothing complex.
The question is will 2400MHz C14 or 2666MHz C16 give the best bang for buck, or for €40 more, 16Gb 3000MHz or maybe even 3200MHz?

My rule: You won't notice the difference. Just pick the cheapest known branded ones.
Even on my main PC builds now. I just make sure it's a known brand, so you have a decent guarantee on it. I never pick max speed ones. They're normally too expensive for the tiny gain in performance. Maybe I'll pick a fancy looking one with cooling fins, but only if it's a reasonable price.

I bought some Corsair Vengeance LPX. 16Gb as it was €30 more than the 8Gb offering. It was also 3000MHz, CL15, so it should be ok, and was slightly more expensive than the basic stuff.

Well that's not too bad of a price increase. 16GB is better than 8GB too
