I will comment on the rules and how they apply to specific incidents. I'm not going to comment on all incidents as don't have the time but there should be sufficient in here for people to understand the main issues and how the rules currently apply.
Firstly keeping to the track limits. Those of us who remember how draconian this can be applied know we don't want to be back in that situation. How ever the rule 2 does state the following:
At least one wheel should be kept within the track boundaries at all times. These are denoted by the white or yellow lines, not the kerb or rumble strips. Corner-cutting or using any run-off area to cut the track is not allowed. Drivers that continually gain an advantage by cutting the track and using run off areas outside of these limits may be penalised by the admin/stewards.
I followed each driver in race 1 on fast forward from the swingman camera and counted the number of cuts (not spin offs or accidents where you leave the track) I may have missed counted by a small margin but I wasn't going to look at each corner forensically. Results below.
Wrighty 22 cuts
Dean 49 cuts
Si 45 cuts
Tricky 16 cuts
BMX 55 cuts
John 15 cuts
Mickey 0 cuts (didn't make a lap)
Jif 35 cuts
Kev 6 cuts in 4 laps (?24 for the full race averaged)
This doesn't tell the whole story as some of these cuts were just across the line but there were also examples where there was pretty much a cars width of grass between the car and the track. At least make and attempt! It's worth noting in general people were cutting more when they were alone on track but cut less when they caught up with someone and even less when they were in front of someone.
I appreciate the chicane at the end of the lap would be difficult on the limit but the be all and end all of this is it is clear people have different ideas of what is acceptable and the rules aren't being followed.
