The rules are in place to strike a balance between having uncomplicated, fun racing that's also clean and fair for all drivers.
General Information
1. Above all, be courteous to other drivers and behave towards them how you would like them to behave towards you, both on track and in the forum.
2. By default, Auto-clutch is the only 'driving' aid allowed.
3. For some vehicles traction control and ABS may be allowed, if we are simulating a series that allows it in real life.
4. Cockpit (in-car) view is the only view allowed.
5. rFactor2 nicknames should normally be the same as your forum username and Discord username to prevent confusion.
6. You must be ‘live’ on Discord when you are connected to the Race Server.
Driving Rules
1. If you leave the track for whatever reason, make sure it is clear and there is a safe gap to re-join the track. After doing so, accelerate to race speed as quickly as possible and do not block other drivers. Do not attempt U-turns on or near the track unless it is safe to do so.
2. At least one wheel should be kept within the track boundaries at all times. These are denoted by the white or yellow lines, not the kerb or rumble strips. Corner-cutting or using any run-off area to cut the track is not allowed. Drivers that continually gain an advantage by cutting the track and using run off areas outside of these limits may be penalised by the admin/stewards.
3. If you hit another driver during an event and disadvantage them in any way, you must let them regain their original position even if you lose places in doing so. If there is some doubt as to whether there was contact, ask the disadvantaged driver if you caused the issue. If they say 'yes', you must wait for them to regain their original place in all cases.
4. If you are hit and disadvantaged during a race and the other driver does not let you regain the place (as above), please notify the admin after the race by email or pm. The admin will then look at the event and decide if any action against that driver is necessary.
5. If you are shown a blue flag, do not alter your line but slow slightly to assist the faster car in overtaking. It is helpful for the slower driver to call on Discord they know the faster car is there.
6. More than one change of line to defend a position is not allowed. Drivers cannot move back onto the racing line having previously moved off it to defend a position.
7. If you are overtaking or being overtaken you should allow the other driver at least a cars width to limit the possibility of an accident. The overtaking driver has responsibility to ensure he makes a clean pass. Drivers who are reckless and attempt to overtake where there is no clear opportunity will be penalised if they do not concede any advantage gained.
8. If your car is undriveable due to damage or you are stuck, you must immediately quit to the garage.
9. You must obey all warning flags, during any session (see Flags section).
10. During qualifying please do not distract other drivers by talking on Discord or by typing text.
11. For non-endurance races, drivers can only join the session during Practice and Qualifying only. Endurance races will allow drivers to re-join the server if they suffer a disconnect.
12. There will be no race restarts, except in the case of a server failure.
Oval Driving Rules - Starts and Restarts
1. Keep to your assigned side of the track (inside \ outside)
2. Do not leave a large gap to the car in front.
3. Do not brake check other drivers.
4. Do not go until the pace car is below the line and on the apron.
Oval Driving Rules - Conduct
1. When passing or being passed keep your line (inside \ outside)
2. If you are involved in a collision with another driver on track, then move onto the apron when it is safe to do so and slow down. Check to ensure your car is safe to continue. Check the other driver(s) involved are OK and then re-join if it is safe to do so.
3. If you are involved in an incident on your own (self-spin, collision with outside wall), then you should slow down and move towards the apron when it is safe to do so. Check to ensure your car is safe to continue.
4. If your car needs immediate repair then you must enter the pits even if they are closed.
Penalties and Exclusions
1. Penalties will be issued for breaking the rules either automatically by rFactor2, via the race results or from an Admin. rFactor2 will do this for jumped starts and cutting the track by awarding a Drive Through (the pits) or a Stop/Go. Race results penalties will show as Points Deductions, Time additions or Disqualification (DQ). Admins will issue Grid Place penalties.
2. Admin/Steward initiated penalties given in the race results are explained in more detail in the Sticky Thread in the ‘Racing Incident Outcomes’ Forum.
3. Unsatisfactory behaviour either on or off the track by any member could result in a temporary or permanent ban from the server \ forum by an Admin.
Flags
The following flags may appear at the top-left of your screen while 'driving' in rFactor2.
1. Yellow flag = be prepared to slow down or stop due to an incident/crash ahead. Do not overtake other cars until the flag disappears.
2. Blue flag = A faster car is approaching you from behind but is not trying for position. You should not alter your line but slow slightly to assist the faster car in overtaking.
3. Drive-through penalty = you have been issued a drive-through penalty either by an Admin/ Steward or by rFactor2.
4. Stop and Go penalty = you have been issued a drive-through penalty either by an Admin/ Steward or by rFactor2. You should enter the pit lane and stop in your pit box until released. You cannot stop for service/repairs when serving a penalty.
Ballast (if used)
1. Championship Success Ballast will be given to some the top drivers to even out the field and to aid in closer racing.
2. Ballast will be recalculated after each race night and distributed accordingly.
Admin/Steward’s Investigations
1. Incidents will only be looked at on a request basis i.e. a request for investigation must be submitted by email or pm to the admin/stewards within 48 hours of the end of the race. The result will be posted in the Racing Incident Outcomes section of the forum.
2. Any penalties awarded will be automatically added to the race results by the stewards.
3. If an admin/steward is involved then they should not comment on the investigation.
4. Drivers involved in the incident should not comment on it on the forum.
5. The admin/stewards’ decision will be given at least two days before the next race.
