Another one of my bright ideas I’d like some feedback on before I start* cutting code. When racing in VR I would like to be able to change the volume of the game, of Discord and of Crew Chief but the only way is to take the HMD off and start clicking the mouse. I’m thinking of mapping 3 buttons of a button box to Select channel, Volume up, Volume down and writing the software to do it. I don’t actually have a button box, I’ll be using these that I bought. One clever bit might be the program saying the channel name as you select them. *I have prototyped the individual bits already (all right, I’ve copied them from the Internet!), pulling them together into a complete program is where the time goes.

I could just use joytokey.net/en/ to map Volume up/down keyboard buttons but that would only adjust the overall volume, not the balance.

It’s been a while as work has got in the way so my memory might be out but you can adapt Crew Chief to take voice commands and map the command to a key. As you’re in VR it might be easier than the buttons?

ISTR it can. As long as my program has flexible key bindings (I've assumed it will have a data file for it, probably JSON) I could do CC voice command -> key -> my program.
CC is what prompted me - racing the other day I was asking "How's my fuel?" but couldn't hear the answer! Also some times I don't notice the engine is a bit loud until I'm in the middle of a race and the Rift does not have a volume dial to turn it down.

Never tried Text to Speech programming before, I'm childishly pleased with the results (open in Windows Media Player):
