About FidelityFX Super Resolution
FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR for short) is an upscaling technique developed by AMD, but it works on pretty much any graphics card, including NVIDIA cards. The idea is that the game internally renders to a lower resolution, thus saving GPU time and reaching higher FPS, as long as it is not bottlenecked by the CPU. The resulting lower resolution render is then upscaled to the target resolution by FSR, with the aim of restoring some of the lost detail due to the lower resolution rendering.
There are 3 implementations we are interested in
rF2 (any SteamVR game) VR only
github.com/fholger/openvr_fsr
Weirdly, rF2 has several OpenVR_api.dll files. The one you need to replace is in the Bin64 folder
Automobalista (requires a custom version) VR only
forum.reizastudios.com/threads/fsr-for-openvr.19036/
Assetto Corsa (via custom shader patch in content manager) VR and flat screen
assettocorsa.club/content-manager.html
Installation for first 2 is a breeze, requiring only 2 files to be dropped into your game folder.
Read the first link on how to install and modify for quality.
I’ve found a setting of 0.67 (Quality) give a good boost in frame rate with no apparent loss of quality.
In all cases backup the original OpenVR_api.dll file in case you have any issues.
I’ve been running them problem free for a month or two.
This will start to be implemented in games natively, which should give even better results, though what I’ve seen so far is damned impressive.
Feel free to hit me up with any questions if you have any issue.
