I'm away in the Falklands for another couple of weeks, but as Si says we've been playing this since the start. It's a great game, I love it but it can be a massive time sink if you let it! If you get in to it, let us know your Cmdr name and team up if you like.

Dunki, just seen your avatar, are you running a Fed-de-Lance? I'm running one right now and I think it's amazing!

I ran a Cobra MkIII for ages. I only just bought the new MkIV. My other docked ships are my Eagle, that I got free due to backing the game at Kickstarter and a Hauler that I used for exploring. That's where I made most of my money in game. I did a big exploration trip out and gather loads of data. I've splashed out on a few paint jobs too, although I'm sticking with the free one for the MkIV. In game I'm CMDR Chalky, if you want to add me in. Screenshots of the Cobra MkIII, Hauler and Eagle.

Sweet stuff there Si, have not got a permit for Sol. When you did your exploring did you trade aswell? or just rely on discovery data.?

Currently running around in a fully spec'd up Fer-de-Lance. I'm really happy with it, it's fast and with decent weapons I can deal with most stuff very easily. That said I took a beating tonight against 4 vipers I took on all at once. I still destroyed them but the ship was a bit bent afterwards!
I've made my money with a mix of legit trading, bounty hunting and smuggling. I'm happy for now though just bounty hunting and working for the Empire. I did have a Python for a while but prefer the FdL for combat.
I'm Cmdr Andrew if you want to add me.

Well I started off trying mining of all things. I did OK at it and there was a sideline of fighting off pirates. Then I bought the Hauler and kitted it out purely for exploration. It's purely exploring only. You get yourself away from all NPCs and other players. Find a spot to go to and head off. I was out for well over a month. I took a trip out and visited 535 systems to get to the Crescent Nebula and back. When I finally got back I cashed in a good 20 million+. From only being at 3mill credits it was a god trip. Nerve racking coming back with all that data. The Hauler is the cheapest way to explore with a decent enough jump range. I tool 1 pulse laser and shields. I just couldn't risk going without them. My spec was something like this. Hauler Explorer BuildI'm not sure I'd take it all the way to Sagitarius A though. The trip was good. Once you get far enough out, you just don't see anyone. Then it's just jump, scoop and scan. I always have some music on in the background. Either my own or www.radiosidewinder.com/

I haven't played ED in months, but have been trying to read the weekly news updates. That haven't made much sense as I've been out of the game for so long. So I logged on yesterday for a quick go. Not sure if it was me (assuming it is, thinking about it), but I had some crazy idea that I could take on a Fed Gunship with my Cobra MkIV and failed miserably. So a net 600k down on insurance. Probably the most stupid thing I've done in ED. Now I'm back working away from home today, I won't have the time to get back on ED for a long time. (Away next 3 weeks at least too).
However a few things did look a lot better, with the Engineers update and faces to missions. The one ship I did destroy, before I was blown to bits, dropped a load of materials that you could salvage that engineers can use to make stuff. I'm tempted to park the Cobra MkIV and go back to the high speed, light armoured Cobra MkIII and just run from everything again. Or maybe go and do some exploring or something again. But given my free time, that may be a long way off.
Anyone else with ED tried the Engineer update?

I had a very brief go a week ago, but my (very) limited gaming time in the week is spent playing Doom 2016. I've never played a game that scares the shit out of me so much, I can only play in 20 minute stints before I have to have a break Anyway I digress! The Engineers update has amongst other things made the NPCs vastly more difficult to fight and kill. My FdL is kitted to the max and I almost got my arse handed to me by a Python, so I'm not surprised a Fed Gunship killed you. As for the rest of the changes, they'll have to wait until I've finished Doom

I got scared from the original Doom, let alone the new one Steam summer sale is on, so I bought a much less frightening "Torchlight II" for under £3. Bargain, top down dungeon fun. Also something my girls can play. Glad you mentioned that the NPCs have got better and it wasn't just massively poor skills from me. Definitively tempted to get back in the Cobra MkIII until I can figure out what's going on. I wonder how the traders find it now, with the improved NPCs. Can't be easy doing that.
