Wife thought it may be a good idea to partition my garage and build a small room for the gaming rig. She thinks my present gaming room will make an ideal bedroom for my growing Grandson when he comes to visit. On a positive note, it means I'll have to buy a dedicated rig for my gaming . Anyway, I was wondering about the temperatures and leaving the PC in there overnight. I plan to insulate as best I can, but all said and done it's a garage, so no heating (other than a small portable oil filled electric one) and I'm not keen to leave the heater on through the night just to keep the area warm for the PC. So do you think the colder winter temps will be an issue? Also imagine condensation may be a problem after using the PC and going from warm to cold over night?

Liam had his rig in his garage if I remember correctly. Personally, I would fit a thermostatically ontrolled radiator, and make sure it was a well ventilated as well as insulated area. You will,be spending a lot of time in there, so it needs to be comfortable.
I was contaemplating fitting a mezzanine floor in my garage as it is ridiculously high, but it gets hot in the summer, so it is staying in the man cave. Another option I considered was a decent shed for my HiFi and race rig, so I can actually use a bit of volume when the daughter is asleep.

Could be an issue with ventilation, according to the picture in my head. Garage is a single one (only used as a small workshop and storage room) so I had decided to replace the up and over garage door (takes up too much space internally) with a side hinged one to make way for a better storage area. Then build a plasterboard wall at the halfway point, thus dividing it into small gaming room and small storage area (no work station area though ). Entrance to games room will be via the utility and entrance to storage via garage door. The area the games room will go has a large frosted window fitted, but unfortunately it's fixed . Do you think it will cause condensation issues? If so I could always leave a small dehumidifier in there.

I was thinking of ventilation to cool it down in the summer. You could fit an extractor fan if you are worried about condensation.

I would check local planning office website as they will also list the requirements so you don’t end up with something that you later need to either rip out or make good when you come to sell.

That's one of the reasons for doing it this way, so I can avoid planning etc. If, we ever decide to sell I would remove the stud wall and return it to a garage. I was originally thinking about bricking up the door and placing a door and window in its place, but after a bit of googling, building and planning reared its head.

Finished the garage conversion today (really pleased with outcome), but playing golf tomorrow so no time to put new rig together before Fri night. Hopefully by next week it should be up and running . I'll get the Missus to take a quick snap later, but probably a little small to appreciate how much bloody work went into it.

Room looks good. The rig’s a bit basic though isn’t it??

Next update after a little rig building this afternoon. Still have to do a little metalwork with the angle grinder and a small amount of cutting to get things finished. Quite chuffed really, the total amount I've spent has been £211 as I bought the profile as an E bay bulk buy and cut and shaped it to fit. Hopefully get it finished and up and running early next week, although all this nice weather is knocking me back due to golf.

Managed to get it up and running tonight, although it still needs a little tweaking to get the perfect position. Everything working as it should, but after doing a few laps I ran out of time, so I still need to fit the Buttkicker (good news is the Wife didn't hear a thing next door) and sort the cables.
