The more I look into this, the more expensive it becomes. The graphics card takes two eight pin connectors. I am not sure I have those, so need to check. Maybe I need to lower my sights with the graphics card. Current cards take 6 pin, so I may need a couple of these - cables

Yes. You need to check the what power the new GPU needs. The R9 Fury I bought uses 2 x 8 pin. Fortunately my PSU from my old PC was decent enough (Antec 850W - modular cable system) and I had the cables as the 2 x 6 pins in the HD6950 were just 8 pin cables that were adaptable to 6 pin.
The R9 390 uses 2 x 8 pin connectors. The RX480 or RX470 use a single 8 pin connector.
So you can just buy that cable adapter if you don't have one for your PSU. Assuming you have a modular PSU. Most are modular these days.

Out of interest, do the graphics cards come with the power leads? It's not clear from the description, so I am thinking of ordering one to be on the safe side.

Mine didn't, they expect you to use the leads that come with your PSU.

Ok, thanks. Do two four pin connectors fit in the 8 pin socket?

I believe you need a single 8 pin, as they have a release clip on the side to secure them. Also, I've no idea electronically if they match up with the pins if you tried two 4 pin plugs.

Thanks. I will order a suitable lead. I have an Antec NeoPower 550W PSU (which appears to be modular), so just need a 4 pin to 8 pin or two 4 pin to 8 pin lead.
Just checked a photo, and I have a 6 pin connector going into the card, so I will order a 6 pin to 8 pin lead.
Getting ng close to pressing the button on this now - it's almost pay day.

Check the output socket on the PSU. Is that 4 pin, 6 pin or even 8 pin out? Then order the correct modular cable that does 4 to 8 pin or 6 to 8 pin etc.

My memory is of a 4 pin socket, but it's been a while since I delved into the PC. I know there is a 6 pin on the card. I couldn't find a 4 pin cable on Amazon (I have prime so delivery is free) hence thinking about a 6 to 8 pin cable.
I will double check before ordering though.
Edited to add that the manual says it has 6 pin sockets.

So, for roughly the same price I can have a B-grade MSI R9 390x which is slightly quicker. I think I will be better off with the Sapphire RX 480?

I have gone for the Sapphire Nitro+ RX 480 8Gb as it takes less power (no new PSU required) and it is supposedly quieter. It should also be more than capable of running rFactor 2.
It should be here tomorrow, so I may get it installed in time to race tomorrow night.

Awesome. Best of luck with the install. Is that the one with the rainbow coloured LEDs?

Yes. I will never see them unless I buy a new case. A quiet PC is more important to me though.
The card has more memory than the PC! I can see a new mobo package arriving before the end of the year.
